SAVE OUR REEFS

The “SAVE OUR REEFS” project will send the most visible message ever to call attention to the catastrophic events occurring in our oceans today. This project will cover approximately one million square feet and will be constructed, by installing over 13,000 “Living Circle” modules, each weighing seven hundred pounds, created from the most beneficial reef material available today. This project will create new marine life at a pace and scale never seen before. By spelling out the words “SAVE OUR REEFS” underwater, the exposure will be global. This project is located in most of the flight paths and will be seen by many people entering and departing Miami International Airport. The construction of this project will provide a venue for divers from across the globe and will ultimately bring much needed tourist revenues into South Florida. By providing a new dive platform, we will help to alleviate the pressure on our natural coral reef systems. This new dive attraction will re direct up to 50% of the traffic to our natural reef systems and in effect reduce the pressure and ultimate damage to these eco-systems. This very well may be the most photographed reef in the US.

FLORIDA WET VETS

The foundation has developed a program designed to facilitate our military veterans wounded in the line of duty protecting our freedom, in the scuba dive experience as part of their rehabilitation. We look forward to these same heroes sharing their stories of overcoming adversity in children’s classrooms in our area and with young adults that are aging out of foster care. Many times when young adults age out of foster care, they are ill prepared to fend for themselves, and often struggle for survival. Many are in trouble with the authorities within their first year as independent adults. With the current climate of music and celebrity, there is a constant loosening of morals and negative behavior to which young people are repeatedly exposed to, through TV, music, and other forms of media. We believe that these military heroes are excellent role models, and it would be a great benefit to student and hero alike.

The portion of the program that addresses young people aging out of foster case will have strict guidelines to which each participant must abide by. There will be daily, weekly, and monthly goals as well as a code of conduct. This will help them to prepare for adulthood as an independent productive person. We will be working with the Air Force and Navy for program participants that qualify for recruitment. We have chosen the Air Force and Navy because they are typically non-infantry branches of the service. This opportunity will not be for all participants due to the requirements of the organizations. We will work with and encourage the participants to finish high school or the equivalent, to prepare them for a college or trade school educational path to ensure future success.

A program specific list of needs is available on our Donations page.
